     Stavroula Kartali (http://babel.noc.teithe.gr/~kartali/kartali.htm) born in Thessaloniki (GR), holds both a B.A. (English language and literature) and a M.A. (Applied Linguistics) from the Aristotelio University of Thessaloniki. She also holds a Certificate of Teaching Greek as a Foreign language which she gained through distance-learning university courses.

        She has been a member of the teaching and research staff at the Language Department of the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki (ΤΕΙΘ), Greece, since 1976 and is Senior Lecturer in English. She has taught English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in the departments of Librarianship, Nursing, Accountancy and Marketing and is currently lecturing ESP at the Dept of Tourism Management.  Her research activities lie on Linguistic needs analysis, materials design and development and Materials and Courses evaluation. She has published a number of research papers mostly in the fields of ESP which she has presented in various international conferences.

      She has been co-ordinator of  the Lingua research and development project: "Needs analysis, materials design and production for railway staff" (1993-97). This project, developed in cooperation with the Greek Railway Organization, was filfilled with the production of a complete educational package for teaching ESP to the respective target populations. It consisted of Student’s and Teacher’s Books, Audio and Video cassettes and a CD. Roula Kartali also developed and organized "Seminars on the European Integration" as coordinator of the JEAN MONNET Program in the ΤΕΙ for seven years (1995-2002).

        She is currently participating in two EU funded Socrates projects. A two-year Leonardo project "Emergency Language 116"coordinated by Essex Fire and Rescue Depts, UK for the production of Internet based data in four different languages. Also the Lingua I project "Promoting the lesser spoken languages" coordinated by IUFM Bourgogne, FR. This project, scopes to offer solutions and proposals in order to encourage European educational authorities to undertake measures for the promotion of multilingualism and the lesser spoken languages.

       She is the mother of two daughters. Christina, a Law graduate with an MA in European Law is currently working for the Greek Ministry of Culture in Athens. Afrodite, holds a BA in French Language and Literature and a MA in Media-assisted language learning and teaching. She is currently working for the "HelloNet" project. Afrodite is also the mother of a ten-day baby boy.
