Laurence Wéry has been working for the French Department (Institut Supérieur des Langues Vivantes) in the University of Liege since 1995. Jean – Marc Defays is in charge of  this department that employs seven teachers and researchers. The French department has tree tasks : the first is to teach French as a foreign language to Erasmus students (more than 500 per year) and to the students who want to study French (more or less 400 per year). Its  second assignment is to organise in- service training courses for French teachers (100 to 150 per year). Those courses are organised in three parts: one didactic (intercultural, written and spoken language aspects, ICT use are studied), the second is  linguistic ( analysis of phenomena  that concern spoken and written languages) and  the third is cultural (French culture and literature in the French_speaking part of Belgium). The third mission of the French Department is to help native French _speaking students to write and read better in their own language (specially some courses for medical students, some courses to help the student who have to write a thesis, etc.).

Apart from those missions, the French Department is involved in a lot of international projects and coordinates some of them (Socrates, Alma, Cecodel, Célor…).

Laurence Wéry teaches Erasmus students, coordinates the in-service training courses for teachers of French from all over the world and also coordinates the international projects for her Department. Last,  her research field is the analysis of language registers from a sociolinguistic and pedagogical point of view. view.
